An Airstream with a Purpose: Nickelodeon’s Big Help on The Road Tour Brings Kid Volunteerism Across the Country
PROJECT
Nickelodeon's Big Help on the Road Tour
BACKGROUND
"The Big Help" is Nickelodeon’s national, grassroots campaign created to connect kids, educators and parents to their communities through volunteerism. Searching for a positive, impactful way to create local Big Help events in 50+ cities across the U.S., Nickelodeon turned to Oasis.
From artists and exhibit designers to fabricators and multimedia specialists, Oasis selected the team that would build the soon-to-be-known Big Helpmobile—a wildly-colored, 34-foot, interactive Airstream trailer and mobile learning lab. Partnering with city officials, cable affiliates and national Big Help partner organizations, Oasis and Nickelodeon created hands-on volunteer activities for kids and adults with key significance to their communities—from park clean-ups to restoring salmon habitats.
In addition to the day to day management of the Big Help, Oasis also handled all the outreach, planning and logistics for the year-round mobile tour, including tour routing, staffing, marketing and publicity—making all events completely turn-key for Nickelodeon and their local partners.
RESULTS
Rolling through 50+ markets and covering over 15,000 miles each year, this colorful vehicle of volunteerism reached kids on a grassroots level in a big, bright, rambling way, visiting elementary schools, museums, zoos, aquariums, parks and community centers across the country. The Big Helpmobile also became somewhat of an on-air celebrity for Nickelodeon where kids would anxiously follow the tour online at www.nick.com to find out when it was coming to their town.
